Exuus is a Rwandan fintech startup founded in 2016 by Steve Shema. The company focuses on digitizing traditional savings groups, known as Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), to enhance financial inclusion and resilience among low-income communities. Exuus developed SAVE, a digital platform that empowers savings groups through a collective and decentralized ledger. Members can perform transactions via USSD, debiting and crediting the group's digital wallet from their individual wallets seamlessly. Village agents can create savings groups, set them up, and add members on the go using the SAVE Collector platform. NGOs and other practitioners can create projects, assign agents to specific areas, and receive real-time data from all their agents, facilitating efficient management of savings groups. Exuus has collaborated with international NGOs like World Vision Rwanda and Care International Rwanda, working with 27 VSLAs comprising over 800 members. Some groups have managed to save more than2,000 using the platform. Exuus aims to reach one million users, promoting financial inclusion from the bottom up by providing convenient and cost-effective financial services to underserved populations.
